06.01.04 First field test of AmbieSense
technology successfully conducted at Oslo Airport Gardermoen
On the 18th of December 2003, the AmbieSense team conducted
the first field test of AmbieSense technology. The test was conducted at Oslo Airport Gardermoen in Norway.
The test
was a user acceptance test, where we wanted to evaluate how users were reacting to AmbieSense technology. Prototype context
tags were deployed around Gardermoen airport, at relevant sites (gate, security check, duty free shop etc.). The context tags
are small Bluetooth enabled computers that are developed in the AmbieSense project, and are capable of transmitting context
and other kinds of information. Test users were provided a personal digital assistant, and got relevant information provided
by OSL Gardermoen (like duty free offers, security information, gate information etc.) as they entered the tag zones (a tag
zone is the radio range of a context tag).
The test provided valuable feedback from end users that will guide the
continuation of the AmbieSense project. This was the first of a series of tests that will be performed at OSL, where we will
test more complete versions of the AmbieSense system.
